Venture Connectors Panel: Wednesday, March 6

If you’ve been scratching your head over rewards-, debt- and equity-based crowdfunding, don’t miss the Wednesday, March 6, Venture Connectors Crowdfunding 101 gathering. This lunchtime panel should help shed some light on the subject – or at least help you hold your own at a cocktail party.

We’ll hear from:

Cheryl Stamm, vice president of sales for Cincinnati-based SoMoLend, an online platform that has matched more than 1,500 businesses wanting to borrow money with 900 investors who want to lend.

Bill Dawson, manager of university commercialization for GLI’s Enterprise Corp., where he helps create and develop local companies based on intellectual property from the University of Louisville.

Phil Shmerling, CEO of Nashville-based InCrowd Capital, an online fundraising platform that helps simplify the friends-and-family investment process for entrepreneurs and their very favorite friends and family members.

And, well, there’s me! I’ve been entrenched in researching crowdfund investing (CFI) for OPM Financial during the past several months, attending numerous conferences and webinars, speaking with the industry’s early pioneers and reading just about everything I can find. So hopefully I can offer up some good tidbits.

One of the things I’ll talk about is the launch of our Regional Crowdfund Investing Committee, chaired by OPM’s Kent Oyler. Our group is chartered with preparing our region for CFI and the opportunities it presents. We’ll host our first big educational event on May 7, so stay tuned for details.

The March 6 Venture Connectors networking starts at 11:30 a.m., with the lunch program at noon. These events are held at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 North 6th St., one of my favorite places in Louisville. Register at Venture Connectors. Hope to see you there!
