Crowdfunding 101 Panel: “No One is Planting the Flag Like Louisville”

kycrowdfundIt’s been a banner media coverage week for our crowdfund investing initiative here in Louisville and the surrounding region! The neato graphic above comes from today’s Courier-Journal. Reporter Chris Otts wrote a great piece on local crowdfunding – it hit the cover of the C-J‘s business section. How much do we love that? He included of wise comments from my client Kent Oyler of OPM Financial.

Kent, I’ve mentioned before (perhaps more than a few times), is the creator of our Regional Crowdfund Investing Committee. We held our third meeting last week and were lucky enough to have Nashville entrepreneur Phil Schmerling, founder of InCrowd Capital, join us. Phil offered some great insights – and compliments. Comparing Nashville to our efforts here in L’ville, he said: “We haven’t taken the steps you have … No one is planting the flag like Louisville.”

So, you know, that was a pretty nice thing to hear!

Insider Louisville‘s Terry Boyd, one of our committee members, wrote a great recap of our meeting.

The meeting followed our “Crowdfund 101” panel at Venture Connectors. I love Venture Connectors. It meets at the Muhammad Ali Center, which is one of my very favorite places in L’ville. I always spend some time there afterward, looking through all The Champ’s memorabilia and watching replays of his fights. Any excuse to go to the Ali Center works for me.

This past Wednesday was extra special because I got to be part of the Crowdfund 101 panel, along with Phil (mentioned above) and Bill Dawson of GLI’s Enterprise Corp. Cheryl Stamm of Cincinnati’s SoMoLend was slated to join us, too, but snowy roads prevented her from traveling. Folks seemed pleased with the presentation, and it was big fun to be up there.

Huge, huge thanks to Kevin Eigelbach for covering our comments in this very nice piece for Business First. And also to Alex Frommeyer for inviting me to be on the panel. Definitely one of the neatest opportunities I’ve had in L’ville since setting up shop here. Thanks, Fro!
